Play Bass for Me

These are some of the songs that haunt me as a bassist, because I never got around to learning them. I put it off, and then I ran out of time. Now they’re will o’ the wisps. You can help me exorcise my remaining ghosts by demonstrating the bass lines of these songs, since I can’t play anymore. In exchange, I’ll send you a signed copy of any book you want.

Post a video of yourself playing the song on YouTube, fill out the form, include the URL of the video, and if I think you did a really excellent job, I’ll send you a signed book. You have to do it as closely as possible to the original, okay? No cheating! You want a book, you need to play the bass line note for note.

Please say at the beginning of the video, “This is for Thomas.” It’s just weird enough that people will wonder what it’s all about. I like weird, and since this is my contest, I get to set the rules. The contest will end when I’ve chosen one video for each of the ten songs, which I’ll post on my site.

This line will have a link to the winners’ videos.

Terms and Conditions

All decisions by me—the mastermind behind these contests—are final, arbitrary, and based entirely on my subjective opinion. Unless you bribe me. I’d say $50,000 would ensure a first-place win. However, if your victory is bought instead of earned, I’ll have to make that clear when I post your winning entry. I can’t have people thinking that I have no taste. If I choose crap as the winner, everybody has to understand that it was because I was paid to do so. Other than that, there are no terms or conditions. And you can enter as many times as you want.
